Processing Supervisor - 2009-09-15

Dear Egg Buyer,

My introduction to farming began early in life, as I grew up on a small dairy farm. I learned about hard work, daily chores and responsibilities at a young age. One day my Aunt, who was working at The Country Hen, told me about a job opening here. Since then, my Uncle, Sister, and Brother have all joined me working at the Hen.

My career at The Country Hen started four years ago as a barn worker. At the time, my duties included the care and monitoring of the hens, floorwalking, cleaning the barn, and daily reports. The opportunity soon opened for me to expand my responsibilities and enter the egg processing room as an egg packer. Egg packers are the last of numerous quality checks. They inspect the cartons to make sure they contain 6 perfect eggs and a legible sell by date and place them securely in a case.
My motivation in taking the egg packer position was the opportunity to work more closely with the egg processing machine. I always had a strong passion and great aptitude working with machinery. For anyone who has been lucky enough to take a tour of The Country Hen farm, you know that the egg processor is a huge and complex system.
After two short years at the farm, another position opened, Processing Supervisor. Accepting this position would fulfill my goal of running and maintaining the egg processor. Also, I would be directly in charge of supervising the Processing Team. As always, I was ready for a new challenge.
Approximately one year into my Processing Supervisor career, I faced my biggest challenge yet. In July of 2008, The Country Hen purchased a new processing machine. The biggest adjustment was adapting to a fully computerized processor that was capable of a much higher rate of production. We have had the new processor for a year now, and I have become very skilled operating the machine. However, it sometimes likes to throw a new problem at me to see if I can handle it. I still take the manual home every night to study. I know that the more I learn about the machine, the better it will be for The Country Hen and the Processing Team.

Thank you for listening to my story,

Gilberto Campuzano
