Corporate Responsibility And Stewardship
ANIMAL WELFARE
The Country Hen barns are cage free giving the hens the ability to roam and socialize as they see fit. They enjoy sunlit barns with outdoor porches attached. The porches have a roof overhead and netting around them to help prevent disease and protect the hens from predators. Our barns encourage the hens to sunbathe, dustbathe, nest, perch, socialize, spread their wings, and even fly.

Our hens have 24 hour access to feed and water.

Our feed is freshly milled at The Country Hen and is customized to meet the exact needs of the flock during every stage of development.

Our employees, skilled in animal husbandry, monitor feed and water consumption for every flock. They walk the barns a minimum of 3 times per day to visually inspect the health and safety of our hens. They also check air quality, ventilation, and temperature.

Our eggs are Certified Humane, undergoing audits and meeting high standards for humane farm animal care.
FEED AND MILL
Our team works diligently to source organic ingredients that meet our high standards for our certified organic feed. We purchase from local suppliers that meet this criteria whenever possible.
ORGANIC FARMING PRACTICES
Our farm and the organic ingredients that we source are free of pesticides, herbicides, and GMOs (genetically modified organisms). We do not use antibiotics or hormones on our hens.
QUALITY AND SAFETY
The Country Hen utilizes a HACCP plan to ensure the safety of our eggs.

The Country Hen eggs are tested regularly from every flock to ensure they meet or exceed our standards for albumen quality, yolk quality, and shell quality.

The Country Hen eggs are periodically sent out for lab testing to make sure we meet or exceed the nutrients listed on our carton: Omega-3s, Lutein and Zeaxanthin, Choline, and Vitamin D.

Our Finished Feed is sent for lab testing on a number of nutrients including protein, fat, moisture, fiber, calcium, phosphorus and sodium.

We are in compliance with the FDA’s Egg Safety Rule designed to prevent Salmonella-e (SE) in egg production operations.
RECYCLING AND REUSE
Water reclamation – To minimize the impact of our farm's water usage, The Country Hen farm utilizes wastewater tanks. The wastewater is collected and sent to a local water treatment facility to be processed and eventually reused.

Manure – All our organic manure is collected from the barns. 100% of it is used by local farmers and landscapers.
